How do artists tend to get out of ruts? Where nothing that you do seems to come out right, and that spark is missing. I have no idea. I’ve usually just waited it out.
I’m stuck in one right now, where my lineart in specific just feels drab. So I tried to work it out, by just doing a piece where I didn’t worry about what the (initial) lineart looked like. Turned out very loose and flowy.
Of course, then I had to muck it up by trying to make the lineart pretty.
Like it says over on devart, I wanted to do the lips/mouth in the lighter style, too, but it just wasn’t looking right. I still have a full-black lineart version, though. I might change it over to that one, because this one just… bothers me.
Yep. It bothered me too much. Back to stark black lines. You can really see that I didn’t do much of anything at all to them, I just… doodled. Woot.

Okay, okay. I know I’m probably going to say this for every one I post, but I am super self-conscious about this one. I’ve been kind of poking at it for a while, looking at reference pictures, and it just doesn’t seem right to me. I’m pretty… unsure about this one.
But I digress. They all must be shown sooner or later, so without further ado, here is @evil_bat_witch!
The little guys around her are familiars from Kingdom of Loathing. Each of them represents a family member, and being that they’re all tattooed on her leg (along with her KoL character, too), I figured they’d be neat to include here too. 🙂 From the top, clockwise: Sabre-Tooth Lime, Spooky Gravy Fairy, Sleazy Gravy Fairy (-poot- love you Erin), Pompadour’d Puppy, Black Cat, and Wizard Action Figure. (The one incorporated into my signature is the Baby Sandworm, my personal most-used familiar. Love that little guy.)
So… There it is. As always, please let me know if there’s anything at all I can change, big or small!
Yay! After forever and a day, here’s free chibi #5 (which has honestly been owed for much much longer):
Alas, this one I am very self-conscious about sharing. Since it’s so late, I wanted to make it grood (not good, not great, but grood). Unfortunately I feel it’s a bit lacking… there’s just not as much “me” as with my own Xmas chibi. I’m wondering if this is just me being unsure about drawing other people still, but… Yeah, I don’t know. Anyway! This one is for @TheGoodIan, who I will never believe is as good as he says he is…
One thing I want to showcase about this one is that pretty much any detail is changeable. Small things like the glasses and text (and even the beard!) are removable, and all colors are editable. So, for example, if someone wanted a different-colored (or textured) background than what is presented, it’d be super easy to do. All the text is going to be hand-written just so I don’t run into any font usage issues, but text isn’t hard to modify by hand, either. With that said, I can also add things, and no detail is too big or too small. I want everyone to be super happy with their chibis.
So, that means… Dearest good sir, if there is anything you want changed, added, whatever, please please please let me know and I’ll be more than happy to oblige.
And now, to the edit:
You’ll remember this chibi from this post. Blu wanted the color of his scarf changed, buttons added to his coat (oops, I forgot!), and a blue hoop earring on his left ear. All super easy changes, and under normal circumstances would take less than a day to do. Unfortunately due to my issues this isn’t really a good example of how long changes will take, but… um, here it is? Woohoo!

Four for four!

Pretty proud of myself for getting 4 done in 4 days, hehe. The process I’ve been doing has been working really well and it doesn’t take me very long at all. /flex
Without further ado, here’s @bluthekay!
I’ve owed Blu a chibi for a while, and I’m glad I was finally able to finish one for him. I’d love to add more detail if he has any ideas, but if you look closely you can see I snuck in a little flag… Blu & I met during the World Cup 2010, both cheering for Spain (my home country!). So I thought it’d be kinda cute to add in. 😛
Of course, it’s easily removable and everything else is totally editable (I love Photoshop layers… should get that on a tshirt), so this image doesn’t have to be the final version. Just poke me! 🙂
I’m way excited to keep working on these, seriously. It always catches me off guard when I see someone tweet with an icon of art I’ve made. “Wait, I didn’t post any — ohhhhhhhhhh. Man, that’s cool.”

I’m kind of sad that this one is fairly plain, but I’m considering it a first draft for the time being. I’ll be asking Luke for feedback, and if he likes it as-is, then it’s finished. Otherwise, I’ll be adding any detail he asks for. 🙂
I believe that getting the foundation and what I’m comfortable doing right, and then building on top of that, is the best method to do these.

I was hoping to have two done today (and an intro post!), but one thing led to another and I found myself doing chores and baby-caring and… well. Yeah. You get the point.
In any case, here is sample #2! This one is for @abqmichelle, who answered my call for volunteers on Twitter! One thing I wanted to do with these samples was to challenge myself to draw people that I don’t know in person, and this is my first try. 🙂 I hope she likes it!

Admittedly, I know Firefly better than Doctor Who, so I went with that theme for the outfit. The TARDIS just seemed like a perfect “background”. Other than that, it’s pretty simple. So! Here’s me REALLY REALLY hoping she likes it :D!
I want to stress that I want anyone I do these for to be completely happy with the end result. If anything is off about the finished image, from hair/eye color to wardrobe (“I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a flapper dress! What is wrong with you?“) to props to ANYTHING, I want all clients to be absolutely happy. With that said, @abqmichelle, if there is anything, anything at all you’d like me to change or do different in your image, please let me know on Twitter! 🙂
